Dear Temple Sinai Members,
I arn looking forward to our Annual Meeting on May 18, and I hope you are as well. It is our opportunity as a congregation to reflect on the past year and look forward to the future. I hope many of you will be able to attend and participate in this important event. Last year we moved the meeting to May, hoping that it would be a more convenient time, and we did have a greater attendance than in previous years when the meeting was in June.
One of the other important events in May is our Annual Mitzvah Day on May 4. I hope you have registered and found an activity that is meaningful to you. Tikun Olam, repairing our world, is an important value in Judaism and especially at Temple Sinai. Participating in Mitzvah Day is an enjoyable way to put meaning to this part of our mission. In addition, we will once again be participating in the FoodShare Walk Against Hunger. This is a fun event and there is no cost to register. On April 6 we had a unique event at Temple Sinai — Ron Blomberg, the first designated hitter in major league baseball, spoke about his experiences and answered questions from the audience. This was an opportunity for Temple Sinai to be visible in the community as well as it being an interesting afternoon for those in attendance. Many thanks go to Rob Dulitsky, who took care of all the arrangements, and to Woody Exley, who submitted press releases to many publications in the area.
As I write this, we are about at the end of Passover and are probably just about done with eating matzah! We had a wonderful beginning to the holiday with a Seder at the Temple for over 100 people. We all appreciated the efforts of the Membership Committee and our Temple Administrator, Joyce Sturm, who took care of every detail for this wonderful occasion. And thanks also go to Rabbi Bennett, Cantor Gordon, and accompanist Nina Miller, who all contibuted to our enjoyment.
