Adult Education Newsletter (March 2015)

This year Adult Education had three diverse programs. In November, we discussed the book, “My Promised Land” by Ari Shavit. In December we showed the movie “The Lemon Tree,” with a rousing discussion led by Cantor Gordon, about the Israeli-Palestinian conflict as seen through the eyes of a Palestinian widow and an Israeli cabinet member’s wife. It’s worth renting if you haven’t seen it.

This past month we had a very well attended panel discussion on “Caring for our Aging Parents” with guest speakers Ann Leabman and Penny Yellen from Jewish family Services, Joanne Foss from Aging Care, and myself. The discussion could have gone on for another hour, so we are scheduling a follow up panel to cover topics around financial planning, housing and estate planning.

On May 29, we will end the year with a book discussion following the 7:30 p.m. service. The book is “The Last Jew” by Noah Gordon.

We sent out a survey monkey (electronically) to the temple members and I will sort out the results and report next month on what our members’ preferences are in adult education programming. We hope to gain insight into what programs are interesting to you.

We welcome new members to the Adult Education Committee. Our next meeting is Monday, March 2 at 7:00 p.m. Please join us and give us your input into future topics.

Shalom,
Ellen Rothberg, Adult Education Chair new-message24
