Another Busy Season (November 2012)

Dear Temple Sinai Members,

As you are reading this bulletin, we will be either looking forward or back to our November 3 event celebrating Rabbi Bennett’s 25 years at Temple Sinai. I expect it will be a wonderful evening and most of all a joyous occasion to honor our beloved Rabbi and friend. The organizing committee, chaired by Amy Molinaro and Ken Lesser, has done an outstanding job on this event, attentive to every detail and mindful of the importance of the event from all aspects. Many, many thanks to all of you!

Social Action is an important value in Reform Judaism, as you all know, and I hope you will be able to participate in the events Sarah Maltese, our Social Action chairperson, has described in her article in this bulletin. In November, we celebrate Thanksgiving, so let us show our appreciation for our good fortunte by helping others in need.

As part of celebrating this national holiday, we will be participating in the annual Thanksgiving Service presented by the Newington Interfaith Clergy at 7 pm on November 18 at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church. This is always a meaningful event and I hope we can have a good attendance from Temple Sinai.

There are many events being planned in December and I am especially happy to see that several of the groups are working together in the planning and implementation of these programs. December 2 is the New Member breakfast and it would be wonderful if many of you could attend to show our new members what a warm, welcoming place Temple Sinai is.

December 8 is a special Shabbat sponsored by our Adult Ed committee with lunch provided by the Sisterhood. Please see Aaron Reich’s article for more details. And of course, we all enjoy the special Friday evening when we celebrate Chanukah on December 14 — who doesn’t like latkes and singing! The Membership/Family committee has partnered with Social Action to give meaning to the value of giving as well as receiving. I hope that all families will be able to bring a non perishable food item as well as a gift card that will be donated to local agencies.

The last few months have been very busy, but exciting. Your board of trustees is a hard working, energized group of men and women and I am proud to work with all of them. We are always focused on how we can preserve the positive aspects of Temple Sinai and improve in areas as needed.

B’Shalom,

Carol Benjamin, President
