End of Summer (September 2013)

Dear Temple Sinai Congregants,

The summer is almost over (although the calendar says we have until September 22) and I hope you have all had time to relax, vacation, and spend time with your loved ones in spite of some of the weather challenges we had. Of course if we didn’t have the interesting New England weather, what would we have to talk about sometimes!

On a more serious note, Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur are upon us which gives us all an opportunity to reflect on the past and plan for the future. I also find great joy at this time of year as I get to see so many of you at our services and have the opportunity to wish you all a happy, healthy, and peaceful new year. I recognize that everyone is busy these days, so it is nice to have these holidays that force us to take a deep breath, relax a bit and have time for reflection.

Our Temple board has some new members and also some experienced members in new positions. I am truly looking forward to working with this group of dedicated individuals who always put the needs of the whole congregation foremost in their minds. One of the most important values of Reform Judaism is Tikun Olum, repairing our world, and the Social Action Committee is a wonderful place to participate in that endeavor. Some of the other committees looking for new members are Adult Education, Religious School, and Youth Affairs to name a few, so there truly is a place for everyone and each person’s interest. Please contact either the Temple office new-message24 or me new-message24 if you are interested in becoming more involved in Temple activities/committees.

Please mark September 20 on your calendar for our annual Welcome and Welcome Back Shabbat. This is always a wonderful evening and a great opportunity to especially show our new and/or potential members what a warm and welcoming place Temple Sinai is.

I hope you have all “Saved the Date” of November 16 when we will celebrate Cantor Gordon’s 20 years at Temple Sinai. A wonderful evening is being planned and I am sure you will enjoy the program as well as joining your fellow congregants to say thank you to our beloved cantor.

L’Shana Tova,

Carol Benjamin, President new-message24
