October — November (2013)

Dear Temple Sinai Members,

I would like to thank all of you for your wonderful (but not surprising) generosity both with the High Holiday pledges and the donations to FoodShare. The pledges are an important source of revenue and I am happy to report that we have already exceeded expectations! The report on the contributions to FoodShare is in this bulletin and I am grateful for our wonderful congregation who represent all of us so well.

September was an incredibly busy month with the High Holidays, Sukkoth, Simchat Torah and the always wonderful Welcome Back Shabbat. I believe we all appreciate the efforts of our staff, volunteers, Religious Affairs and Membership committees who worked tirelessly to make all of these events so special.

This bulletin covers both October and November, although it is hard to think two months ahead when we have just finished the event packed month of September. Special events in October include ones sponsored by the Adult Education Committee and the Sisterhood, so please check out their columns and attend as many of these programs as you can. Also please check out the Social Action committee column for events in October and November.

In November, our board will have an extended meeting toset goals for the coming year as well as plan events and programs that we hope will interest many of you. I will share the results of that meeting in the December bulletin. Also in November is our special event on November 16 to honor our beloved Cantor Donna Gordon for her 20 years at Temple Sinai. The organizing committee for this event is working hard to make this an enjoyable evening. And last, but not least, our annual Chanukah Shabbat will be on Friday evening, November 29. Although this is the last Friday of the month, the service time will be at 6:00 p.m. in order to have enough time for the service and enjoy the celebration that will include latkes, which of course are much better than leftover turkey.

I would like to extend a formal welcome to the many new families and individuals who have joined our Temple Sinai family. I hope you find our congregation as warm and welcoming as we hope it to be and for those of you with children in the Religious School, I trust that it is a positive experience for them as well.
