Religious School Newsletter (January – February 2015)

The 10th graders that have continued their Jewish education, either formally or informally, will join this year’s Confirmation class. Our frst session begins on Sunday, January 11, after Religious School. The students work together to create an inspirational and meaningful service, which they will conduct at the Shabbat Service on Friday, May 15, at 6:00 p.m.

The 2nd graders will participate in the Shabbat service on Friday, January 23, at 6:00 p.m.

Modern-day Jews celebrate Tu B’Shevat by expressing joy and thankfulness for trees, harvests, and the natural world. Many Jews plant trees at home and in Israel, and eat delicious fruits and greens in celebration of this “New Year of the Trees.” During this agricultural festival, Jews around the world consider our obligation to care for the environment and our sacred responsibility to share the fruits of G-d’s earth with all.

This year Tu B’Shevat, the 15th day of the month of Shevat, falls on February 4th. The temple will hold its annual Tu B’Shevat Seder following services on January 30 at 7:30 p.m.

On Friday night, February 6, the 5th grade class will participate in the Shabbat Family Service at 6:00 p.m., followed by a pot luck dinner for the class and families. Please mark your calendars for this special service.

As always, please feel free to contact me with any suggestions and/or concerns. We want our Religious School to be a place of learning and friendship for everyone!

Wishing everyone a Happy and Healthy 2015,

b’Shalom,
