Religious School Newsletter (March 2015)

I am writing this article during a blast of arctic air, but know that SPRING is around the corner! March is a busy month with several programs in our Religious School. The month of Adar brings the festive holiday of Purim, which falls on Wednesday, March 4. Religious School will be in session March 4 and we will be celebrating with our annual Purirn service. We would like the religious school families to attend with their children that evening. Services begin at 6:00 p.m., followed by refreshments. The evening will end the same time as every Wednesday evening at 7:30 p.m. Dress in costume and experience the Purim Service as we hear the Megillah. It is always fun to see the characters chosen by Rabbi Bennett and Cantor Gordon!

The annual Purim Carnival will be held right after Sunday school on March 8. Our Youth Group members work hard to make this carnival fun and festive for all ages! Please plan on supporting them with your presence.

On Friday, March 6, the 6th graders will participate in the Shabbat Farnily Service which begins at 6:00 p.m. The 6th graders will proudly wear the talitot that they designed! Please plan to come!

On Wednesday, March 11, the Israeli Teen Emissaries will be visiting our school and meeting our students.

On Sunday, March 29, JT Connect will bring a special JTCares program to Temple Sinai for teens in grades 8–12. The program will focus on the issue of immigration, our connections to it as Jews as well as our obligations to help those who are strangers in our land. The program will run from 1:00 p.m.–4:00 p.m. at Temple Sinai and will include lunch, learning and a community service project. Community service certificates will be awarded at the end. Please let me know if you are interested in attending this wonderful program.

On Saturday, April 26 from 9–11:30 a.m., the 7th graders and parents will participate in an important, experiential workshop led by facilitators from the Anti-Defamation League (ADL) in a program called “Confronting Anti-Semitism and Bullying.” This program is mandatory for all 7th graders who should be accompanied by their parent(s).

Many thanks to our classroom window covering angels who so generously donated the window shades as an important security addition to our school. The shades allow students to see out but provide total privacy from the outside looking in. Todah Rabah — We thank you so much!

As always, please contact me with any suggestions and/or concerns. I can be reached by cell phone or email new message24.
