Sisterhood Speaks (September 2013)

A New Year. A blank page. What an opportunity! How shall we fill it?

Sisterhood strives to serve the congregation of Temple Sinai and in particular the women of Temple Sinai. With that as our guiding principal, we will try to fill the new calendar with events which we hope will be of help and interest to all ages. Some events will be held Sunday mornings, some in the afternoon, and some in the evening. We really hope to serve all the women of Temple Sinai and we are trying different times to accommodate all our busy, busy schedules. We believe that everyone needs to set aside time for friendship, so find a time that you can join us, and come. You will be very welcome!

So far, the fall calendar looks like this:

  • Sept. 14 — Sisterhood Break-the-Fast oneg for Yom Kippur. The whole congregation is invited to gather after services and share challah, apples, honey and a few other goodies as we begin the New Year together.
  • Oct. 6 — Sunday morning, 9:15 a.m. – 10:45 a.m., “Sisterhood Swap & Meet”. We welcome any and all women of Temple Sinai at this event! Bring your gently used accessories and trade them for different ones. Get a “new” scarf, hat, pocketbook and/or jewelry for the fall! And, clean out some space at home to put them! We’ll provide the coffee & tea and mufftns. All for free. All for fun.
  • Oct. l7 — Paid Up Membership Dinner, 6:30 p.m. New Sisterhood members come and meet with the rest of the gang. We’ll renew old friendships and make new ones as we dine together. Plus there will be entertainment completing the evening’s fun.
  • Oct. 27 & 28 — Rummage Sale. Drop off your gently used clothing and household goods Sunday morning and/or come help out. You will be part of our main fundraiser for the temple. Then you can shop in the afternoon (noon – 3 p.m.) for new treasures. The sale continues Monday mornling (10 a.m. – 1 p.m.) with per bag bargain pricing.

We will fill the rest of the year with Friday night and Saturday morning onegs, Pot Luck Dinners, Special Speaker Dinners, and a Shabbat Dinner. We again plan to get together with the Sisterhood of B’nai Tikvoh Sholom and Congrelgation Beth Israel.

We would be happy to hear from our sisters in the congregation with ideas for other activities. Email the Sisterhood new-message24. We will hold on Sunday mornings, on week day evenings, on Sunday aftemoons — whatever we can do to fit you in. Sisterhood is looking forward to a New Year of caring and of sharing for all the women of Temple Sinai.
