Social Action Committee Newsletter (January – February 2015)

“The world’s continued existence is due to three things including Torah study, worship, and the performance of acts of kindness” — Shimon HaTzaddik (known as Simon the Righteous).

We are so thankful for all of the support our congregation has given this past year. We are changed just as much as our community when we donate our time, money, or items. It is a true mitzvah.

Our Turkey and a $30 drive was extremely successful. Our congregation raised almost 20 turkeys and $1200!

Human Rights Shabbat was a great night. Susan Mazer spoke about the great things the Charter Oak Cultural Center is doing, and about the positive impact access to the arts has had for those in need.

The Hartford All City Youth Orchestra performed beautifully after the service and I thank everyone for coming out.

January 16 is our Martin Luther King Day service. Social Action will be sponsoring a special service, and we would like to invite everyone for a game night and pizza after the service. Please mark your calendars and stay tuned for additional information.

Anyone interested in volunteering with the Mercy Shelter please let me or Bethany Astrachan new message24  know. We have dates throughout 2015 available.

We have “adopted” the Charter Oak Cultural Center and are gearing many of our drives and events towards helping with their mission. If you are interested in any events at the Cultural Center (which are truly amazing) please check out their website www.charteroakcenter.org.

Our meetings are Wednesday evenings each month at 7:00 PM. Our next meeting will be on Wednesday January l4. The February meeting will be on Wednesday, Feb. 18. All are welcome to attend and we look forward to seeing you at our next event!

Thank you all for your continued acts of kindness.

Shalom,
Sarah Maltese, Social Action Chairperson new-message24
