Social Action Committee Newsletter (May – June 2013)

The Social Action Committee would like to extend our sincere gratitude to the congregation for your support this year in acts of Mitzvot. We are appreciative of the generosity of our Temple Sinai community.

Mitzvah Day and the Foodshare Walk Against Hunger is Sunday, May 5. There will be a display of the mitzvah projects that have been done throughout the year prior to the walk. Knitzvah will also be meeting May 5th. We will be meeting at 11:30 a.m. for lunch and then going as a group to the walk site.

If you have not already signed up for the walk, please sign up at www.foodshare.org on team Temple Sinai. Additionally, please solicit donations from friends, family, and colleagues. Our goal is $3,000.

We recently reached out to our congregation for Foodshare volunteers to pick up food from grocery stores and bring the food to local shelters on a weekly or monthly basis. The April training was postponed and we are working with Foodshare to obtain a new date in June. More information will be forthcoming.

We are continuing volunteering at the Mercy Shelter preparing and serving dinner. The following Sundays are available for 2013: June 16, July 17, August 11, and November 10. Please contact Bethany Astachan new-message24 for more information.

As always we look forward to suggestions and comments. Our next meeting is Tuesday, June 4 at 7:00 p.m.
