Social Action Committee Newsletter (May – June 2014)

Mitzvah Day is soon here! Thank you to everyone who will be helping prepare for Mitzvah Day and the Foodshare Walk Against Hunger. The events are Sunday, May 4, at the Temple starting at 9:00 a.m. Breakfast and registration will be from 9:00 a.m. – 9:30 a.m., services from 9:30 a.m. – 10:00 a.m., and Mitzvah Day activities will be from 10:00 a.m. – 11:30 a.m. Lunch will follow for those walking in Foodshare’s Watk Against Hunger. There are activities for all ages and abilities. We hope to see everyone there. If anyone has gardening equipment (shovels, work gloves, etc.), we are looking to borrow equipment for our outdoor projects; so please bring them along.

Mitzvah Day events are:

  • FIDELCO dog toy making
  • Mailing Project
  • Knitzvah knitting project
  • Making puzzles for Alzheimer’s patients
  • Making sandwiches for a local shelter
  • Cleaning Memorial Park
  • Temple grounds beautification
  • Special activities by the Religious school classes

It is not too late to sign up and donate for the Foodshare Walk Against Hunger. Please visit foodshare.org to sign up and donate to Team Temple Sinai. Our goal is $3,000. Please help our neighboring families in need.

We want to take this time to thank everyone who contributed to our mitzvah projects throughout the year —  from our turkey drive to our book drive and game night. We appreciate the congregation’s supportive mindfulness of our community needs.

Our next meeting will be May 27 at 6:30 p.m. Please come enjoy dinner and brainstorming for next year’s mitzvot.
