The Social Action Knitzvah Project donates items to charities, and we need your help! You don’t have to be an expert to join in. We get together as a group monthly to chat and make such items as hats and quilt squares. We’ll have patterns ready for you.

Do you want to do a mitzvah? You can volunteer to cook at at the Mercy Shelter in downtown Hartford. Temple Sinai is part of a group of non-profit organizations that help prepare meals for the residents of Mercy Shelter. Since 1983, Mercy Housing and Shelter has been working to empower homeless persons to become independent. It provides housing, food, job training, access to medical services, and basic human needs
Several Sundays a year, volunteers from Temple Sinai shop, cook, and serve dinner to the residents at the shelter. It is a great opportunity for a bar or bat mitzvah student (or any youngster 12+), and/or an adult (or two), to provide meaningful and needed help in the community. All the instructions you need are provided, and the Temple Sinai Sisterhood reimburses you for the groceries you purchase. All you need to provide is the elbow grease and a smile. Volunteers serve on selected Sundays from 2-5:00 p.m.
Families are welcome to sign up to come to the Mercy Shelter and help cook and serve meals. If you are able to help, please contact the Social Action Committee’s Mercy Shelter program chair
Rosh Hodesh (the beginning of the Jewish month) has long been considered a special “holiday” for women. In modern times, Rosh Hodesh has become a time for women to reclaim this ancient holiday and reinforce their Jewish identity. Sisterhood currently sponsors three Rosh Hodesh groups.
Interested women are welcome to participate in what has proven to be an exciting and transformative experience of learning and sharing.
To join a fourth Rosh Chodesh group, call the Temple office at 860-561-1055 or send us e-mail
