Sisterhood Speaks (March 2015)

What’s happening in March? A lot — and we want you there!

On Thursday, March 12 at 7:00 p.m., Sisterhood is excited to present Judy Dworin of the Judy Dworin Performance Project. Judy Dworin has been working on creating dance stories with the women of York Correctional Institute in Niantic, CT.

Her work, “In My Shoes”, has been performed at Hartford Stage Company. Ms. Dworin will speak about her work and enhance her talk with video of the dance group. She will be joined by Suzi Jensen, who is the daughter of a former York CI resident and presently works as her assistant at the Performance Project. Suzi will perform a selection from “In My Shoes” — a piece that presents issues of incarceration reflected through the lens of those who have walked the walk.

The full production will be performed at Infinity Music Hall on Monday, March 16 at 7:30 p.m. We are inviting all members of the temple to attend this meeting. We believe the subject is important and the opportunity to hear Judy Dworin and see a bit of her work is exciting. Coffee/tea and dessert will be served. We would appreciate it if you would RSVP to Joyce, 860/561-1055, or email new message24 so that we can prepare well for the evening.

Our second event for March is a get together with the Sisterhood of Kol Haverim. Kol Haverim is a URI Reform Congregation in Glastonbury. Their Sisterhood president contacted us and asked if we wanted to become sister Sisterhoods. We invited them to join us at Temple Sinai on Sunday, March 22 at 6:30 p.m. We will get to know each other as we enjoy coffee, tea and dessert. We will then sort and bag the toiletries which our Temple Sinai Social Action Committee has been collecting, and send them on to help the homeless served by the Charter Oak Cultural Center in Hartford. Please bring any sample/individual sized toiletries that you may have with you to include in our bags! Please let us know that you are coming in your response to your phone tree caller or email to new message24.

Finally, our third big event in March will be the Rummage Sale. Spring Rummage is early this year, coming the last weekend of March on Sunday, March 29 and Monday, March 30. We will be collecting your donations on Sunday morning from 8:00-11:30 a.m. Just park next to the building at the main door and we’ll help bring the rummage in from your car! We are happy to receive donations of gently used clothing, books, toys, linens, small appliances, kitchen and other home goods. We even sell artwork at the Rummage Sale. Our doors open at noon on Sunday for the best bargains in Newington! Come and support Temple Sinai through our Rummage Sale!
