Sisterhood Speaks (May – June 2014)

On Friday night, April 11, Sisterhood sponsored the 2nd Annual Sisterhood Traditional Shabbat Dinner. On Thursday the fun began. The kugels were made by Myra Wishnick and Jane Weisberg in Myra’s kitchen and across town by Dot Revson in her kitchen. That evening the cooking crew gathered at the temple kitchen and washed and peeled and chopped. The pound cakes were baked.

Then, oops, we found the pilot lights were out on the stove and we couldn’t make the applesauce or the strawberries. Home went the applesauce with Myra; home went the strawberries with me — all to return cooked and ready the next day. On Friday we prepared the salads for serving, the veggies for roasting, and the chicken for warming. We baked chocolate cakes, sliced lemons, made tea and coffee, and set tables. We were ready for a wonderful Shabbat Dinner for 66 people!

So what does it take to make such a wonderful dinner? A wonderful Sisterhood Crew! The cooks and bakers were:

  • Myra Wishnick
  • Dot Revson
  • Nancy Weinberg
  • Estelle Gonsalves
  • Randi Blum
  • Sheila Small
  • Jane Roth
  • Raquel Levin
  • Becky Levin
  • Maxanne Kass
  • Ann Speyer

Thanks to Rose Ulan, who kept track of all our reservations so that we could be ready for everyone. Thanks to those who helped with cleanup. Thank you to Aurel for running our super fast dishwasher in the end.

Finally, a special thanks to Rabbi Bennett and Cantor Gordon for concluding the evening with the traditional blessings and then some celebratory Shabbat songs. As we sat together with our friends, and sang about Shabbat shalom, I think we all felt specially blessed to have our friendships and to have our temple home where we can come together and find Shabbat peace.

Save these dates:

  • June 12 — Sisterhood Appreciation Dinner
  • June 27 — Sisterhood Shabbat Service and Installation of Officers
