Social Action Committee

תיקון עולם‎ (Tikkun Olam, repairing the world) is an integral part of Temple Sinai’s mission. The Social Action Committee guides our efforts to honor our commitment to bettering our local, national, and international community through acts of mitzvot, or good deeds. In addition, we strive to educate our community on different causes and means of helping those less fortunate. We work closely with other organizations in the Greater Hartford area and beyond to improve our community.

This year we helped raise over $10,000 in monetary and food donations to Foodshare for the High Holidays. We were featured on the Foodshare web blog for our congregation’s continuous contributions. You can view this recognition at Foodshare’s web site.

Some of our ongoing activies are

  • Sponsoring a team in the annual Foodshare Walk against Hunger
  • Organizing a Knitzvah group that meets regularly to knit and crochet items such as scarves, hats, and gloves for military troops, elderly homes, premature infants, and cancer patients
  • Cooking and serving dinner one Sunday per month at the Mercy Shelter in Hartford
  • Organizing a “Mitzvah of the Month”

We would love for you to get involved. You can call the Temple office or send me e-mail  new-message24
